Geetoo Expands Its Infrastructure

The demands for performance, security, and scalability of cloud services are growing. Geetoo is therefore expanding into another data center. What benefits will the new modern infrastructure in SafeDX bring to our customers?

In today’s digital era, data centers are the backbone of modern technology. Without them, it would be impossible to operate cloud services, key applications, streaming platforms, or language AI models. Generally, it can now be said that AI is one of the main drivers of data center growth and at the same time, it’s among the largest consumers of their computing resources.

Geetoo’s infrastructure is now distributed across three data centers in the Czech Republic and one location in Slovakia. Thanks to this, we are able to provide customers with higher service availability, geographic redundancy, and flexible capacity scaling. This distributed model allows us to efficiently manage backups and increase resilience against outages, which is key for operating critical IT systems and cloud services.

A Bit of Theory: What is a Data Center?

A data center is a specialized, highly secure facility (building) whose purpose is to ensure the continuous operation of servers, data storage, and network infrastructure 24/7, 365 days a year. Any outage could affect the operation of important applications, and you might feel it, for example, by not being able to pay by card for artisanal coffee from your favorite café, or your e‑shop might go down. Outages are prevented using cutting-edge technologies in infrastructure, cooling, power supply, and security. Data centers are divided into colocation (multi-tenant), where infrastructure is shared by multiple entities, and private (single-tenant).

Furthermore, we distinguish availability levels (so-called Tiers) for data centers, which were defined by the Uptime Institute. These levels correspond to various operational requirements and define standards for maintenance, power, cooling, and fault tolerance. Our newly used SafeDX data center (link) meets the high standards of Tier III. What does this mean? Each critical system is redundant at least in N+1 mode. In case of failure of one component of any part of the infrastructure, a backup component immediately takes over the operation. This minimizes the risk of outages and ensures maximum service availability.

Selection of the New Data Center: Why SafeDX?

When deciding on a new data center, we considered several key factors:

  • Quality and certification: We required facilities meeting Tier III level, which guarantees high availability and reliability.
  • Capacity and technical capabilities: We required racks of at least 48U in size (for optimization of pre-prepared cabling) with the possibility of drawing at least 10 kW per rack, which allows the placement of high-performance servers and other hardware.
  • Own hall or pod: To ensure security and control, we preferred the option of having our own separate space within the data center.
  • Strategic location: Prague was an ideal choice, however, with regard to geographic redundancy, we looked for a location sufficiently distant from our existing data centers.
  • Economic advantage: Price played an important role; we were looking for an optimal ratio between costs and services offered.

After careful consideration of all options, we decided on SafeDX, which met all our requirements and also offered the best price conditions. With this step, we significantly expanded our capacity. [Geetoo] operates three data centers in the Czech Republic – two active and one for backup.

Benefits for Geetoo

The transition to the SafeDX data center has brought us several major advantages:

  • Increased infrastructure quality: Modernization from the original Nagano data center to SafeDX means better access control, continuous service in the data center, and location in a separate building, which increases security.
  • Technological innovations: We have implemented pre-wired racks, which speeds up the installation of standard hardware. Data centers are connected by 100G lines in a ring topology with the possibility of increasing capacity by using unlit fibers between DCs. In addition, we have deployed EVPN technology, which enables efficient use of all routes.

Advantages for Our Customers

This modernization is also positively reflected in the services for our clients:

  • Higher performance and availability: Thanks to better network infrastructure, we offer faster application response times and more stable connectivity.
  • Faster backup and migration: Modern technologies enable faster backup processes and virtual machine migration, which minimizes downtime and increases efficiency.

What Does Tier III Mean in Practice?

All our data centers meet Tier III standards, which ensures:

  • Redundant power and cooling: Protection against outages thanks to duplicated systems.
  • High availability: Guaranteed service availability at the level of 99.982% (i.e., max. 1.6h downtime per year)
  • Maintenance without interruption of operation: Ability to perform maintenance and updates without affecting normal operations.

For companies that still operate servers in their own premises, moving to a Tier III data center brings higher security, reliability, and reduced operational risks.

Security in SafeDX

Security is our priority. In the SafeDX data center, we have strengthened especially physical security:

  • Separate space (POD): Ensures that no unauthorized personnel has access to our equipment.
  • Physical security 24/7: Continuous monitoring of the entire facility.
  • Controlled access: Entry only with a valid ID and authorization, which minimizes the risk of unauthorized access.

Conclusion

The expansion of our infrastructure with the SafeDX data center is a strategic step that allows us to better respond to the growing market demands, especially in the field of artificial intelligence and cloud services. With this step, we ensure our customers higher performance, reliability, and security of their data and applications.
