Company profile
For more than 30 years, VIS Plzeň has been changing school meals for the better through the Strava.cz app. Their software is used by more than 600,000 diners to order meals in school canteens in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Our company has about 100 employees. We build information systems for school cafeterias, holding approximately 50% market share.
Reason for Moving to the Cloud
The school system is specific in that there are changes in performance requirements throughout the year, especially during the summer holidays. Therefore, the main reasons that determined the move to the cloud were the availability of hardware and, most importantly, the ability to scale the power consumed. As already mentioned, the requirements are not constant throughout the year. The company management approached several providers. The winner of the tender was Geetoo.
We chose Geetoo because the technical aspects of their service, the price, and their friendly approach suited us.
Migration to the cloud was carried out in phases. The original systems remained operational while new resources were gradually added to the cloud. After successfully testing the system, all operations were transferred to the cloud environment.

Technical Aspect
The technical solution of VIS Plzeň includes two application servers and several Docker servers running individual MS SQL servers. In the future, a transition to Kubernetes is being considered, which would simplify the administration of part of the system.
